Your Child NEEDS Discipline...

Your Child NEEDS Discipline

Now first things first, let me say this... Often when we start talking about discipline people cringe, tense up and immediately get on defense. So relax a minute take a deep breath and let's talk about it.

Let's start by defining discipline...

One definition of discipline, as described by the web is : the practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behavior, using punishment to correct disobedience.

Now, i'm sure there will be some who will not agree with this definition or the practicality of the fact that discipline is necessary for children and adults too for that matter, but If you're reading this blog post let's just assume you are with me on this idea. Even if you're not, it's OK. This is not by any means up for debate. So I've outlined below reasons I believe discipline in some form is a MUST!

Reason #1: God said so:

My bible tells me  to "train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it."   Proverbs 22:6
In any and every type of training I can think of, there is a requirement for discipline. You can't be properly trained in anything without discipline. Discipline teaches you and aids you in doing things properly. Sounds like parenting to me 😉.

Reason #2: Discipline helps one make better choices:

Where there is a lack of discipline, there is a lack of the ability to make positive healthy choices in life and avoid repeat "mistakes". As parents part of our job is to guide our children, teach our children how to make proper choices. Kids will be kids and they will do foolish child-like things. The bible even tells us that foolishness is bound in the heart of a child. It's in them, this is why we as parents have an awesome responsibility to train them in the proper way. They simply don't know any better until they have been properly taught. Teaching them requires discipline in some form. Now, the same scripture that tells us foolishness is bound in a child's heart, also tells us "but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him" God never leaves us without answer. I love his word! While there is much debate I often hear from other moms on this. It says what it says and the word of God is true, regardless of what we think. God's word is final authority and the final standard of truth. Providing discipline teaches your children respect for themselves AND others, which is very important.

Let me also add, that I am not in any way saying or condoning abusing children, neither are the scriptures. Abuse is totally different from what is being mentioned here in this blog. So please don't misinterpret. and thanks for reading!

Now, your children may not "like" discipline, but it is of great importance and YOUR responsibility as a parent to provide it. We are not here to befriend our children, they can do that on the playground. We are here to love them, guide them, nurture them and teach them in the way(s) of the Lord. You do your child a great injustice when you don't provide discipline.

It is my belief that discipline can come in different forms. Kids don't ALWAYS need a popping on the behind, but it won't hurt them if they do. Sometimes you have to use other ways to correct or discipline your child.
Whatever you choose, make sure it works for you an your child.

Happy Parenting Precious Mom!
